Seminar Series

We host interactive seminars in the spring and fall. Our spring seminars are in Cambridge on Harvard’s main campus, and our fall seminars are in Boston at Harvard Medical School. During our fall seminar series, teams of three PhD students present current information and ongoing research within a given field. In our spring seminar series, an individual PhD student will present on his or her recent work, going into detail about the experiments that led to new conclusions. Our seminars are open to audience members of any age.

Science by the Pint

Each month, we bring a group of scientists to a local bar to interact directly with the non-scientists in attendance. The featured scientist gives a brief introduction to their work and pauses for a few general questions before mingling from table to table at the bar with other members from the lab. Attendees have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with several different scientists. Currently, Science by the Pint is held on one Monday night each month at The Burren in Davis Square.

DayCon

DayCon is our newest SITN event with our inaugural conference held in June 2015. This event is the first of its kind: a free research conference presented by graduate students to the public. The day will consist of interactive seminars, informative panels, and poster sessions. This daylong event will give attendees a diverse range of opportunities to interact with scientists.

Model Organism Zoo

Every year at Cambridge Science Festival, SITN produces a model organism zoo where we bring the models that we work with in lab every day to the public. We present organisms such as yeast, fruit flies, and zebrafish and show how we use them to study basic science questions. This is a great family-friendly event and is available for other events too! Contact SITN if you’re interested in bringing our model organism zoo to your event.
