What do people imagine when they picture a scientist? Our guess is an older white male in a lab coat. Just to be sure, we tested this theory (try it out), and we weren’t wrong — the Google Images results show a litany of elderly, Einstein-esque white men. Although these men have inarguably made significant contributions to science, they are not alone, and we think it’s time some other people got their due recognition.
We’ve created a series of profiles that aim to celebrate scientists from all walks of life. Each profile has been written in two formats, the first being for children. Kids are the future of science, so it’s vital that they know the truth: no accomplishment is out of reach, scientifically or otherwise. The second format is written for a more general audience, because we’re never too old to learn something new or to get inspired by some incredible people. These profiles will be posted on a biweekly basis over the coming months, so please check back soon!
We hope you have as much fun reading them as we did!
Sincerely,
Your co-Editors in Chief
Kimberly and Rebecca
