DayCon

Co-directors: Interested? Let us know!

DayCon is a day-long science conference for the general public that will tentatively be held next in Spring/Summer 2022. The conference centers around an annual theme and provides a space for the public to interface with scientists via lectures, interactive stations, and more! Check out videos of previous years’ DayCon events here.

DayCon volunteers should:

  • Have a broad interest in science outside of just your field
  • Have good interpersonal skills for recruiting volunteers
  • Be organized and able to keep up with emails
  • Have good communication skills to assist volunteers with preparing their presentations
  • Work well as part of a team

DayCon volunteers don’t need to: have previous experience recruiting speakers, applying for grants, giving feedback on presentations, or organizing an event of this scale. You’ll be working with a team that includes people with experience from previous years and will learn these skills along the way.

Interested? We are looking for several co-directors to take over planning of DayCon 2022 beginning this fall. Responsibilities include submitting event grants, creative development of the year’s theme, recruitment and oversight of committee chairs, and leading day-of setup and organization. This is an opportunity to lead a big SITN initiative while involving a less regular time commitment, with the majority of the work demand occurring in the spring leading up to the event. Email us at sitnboston@gmail.com if you’re interested or want to learn more.

If you are interested in DayCon but want to participate in a more focused role, we will also be recruiting for committee chairs and day-of volunteers as the semester progresses, so stay tuned!
