Fall Lecture Series Operations and Logistics Director

Each year, SITN hosts a Fall Lecture Series with lectures delivered by graduate students to the general public. We are looking for someone who is interested in coordinating the logistics on the lecture day (7 Wednesday evenings) to ensure that the entire series runs smoothly and efficiently. The Operations and Logistics Director will have an integral, yet low-commitment role in the Fall Lecture Series.

Finance Director

Science in the News has exploded in the past year with new initiatives including an expansion of our Science by the Pint series, the production of a daylong science conference, and the release of a podcast series. With all of this expansion, we must target additional funding sources. Join our finance team to direct our financial expansion and make new initiatives possible. Applicants do not need experience in finance but a desire to identify new funding sources, learn how to write grants, and develop managerial skills. Great for those interested in business after graduate school!

Graphics Editor

Pictures say a thousand words. Bring our online content to life with your artistic skills. Check out our wonderfully illustrated articles to see how you can contribute! Many of our illustrations have been used by other media outlets. This is a great way to have fun, build your portfolio, and significantly contribute to our online blog. Low commitment, join our graphics team!

Audiovisual Director

Help us to record our new lectures to create an interactive archive of high-quality science content. Individuals should be creative and motivated to curate our collection of science lectures. Come develop your video-editing skills, help us to reach broad online audiences, and spread the message of SITN!

Podcast Correspondent

SITN is launching our new monthly Podcast series, “SIT’N Listen!” and we are looking for individuals who are interested in being part of the correspondent team. Being a correspondent will involve (1) conceptualizing and managing the content and workflow of one full podcast episode (2) working closely with the team of correspondents and producers to shape the podcast program (3) participating in the production and content 2-3 podcasts over the course (Optional: speaking roles)

Outreach Co-Director

We’re looking for ways to expand our reach to other areas of the Boston/Cambridge community. Help us to bring our lecture and written content to new audiences via educational partnerships with institutions in the area. Join the outreach team!

Waves Correspondents

Signal to Noise:Waves is the short-form article section of our newsletter, Signal to Noise. As a Waves correspondent, you will be responsible for scanning news and social media sites for trending science. You will then e-mail an expert in the trending topic to get their take on the science behind the trend. You’ll then sum up your experts’ info in a roughly 250 word article to be posted on our website.

Webpage Master

We need more people to join our webpage team! Individuals will be responsible for running the website and making new posts. We are also undergoing a website re-design so individuals should have a desire to implement changes into our website to make it more user-friendly.
