Schools

In the spring of 2009, Science in the News launched a new public outreach initiative in the form of lessons in local high schools. Our goal is to expose students to cutting edge science research and provide them with an opportunity to learn more about both science and careers in scientific research. We have already worked with teachers at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, Brookline High School, and the O’Bryant School of Math and Science to bring interactive classes taught by graduate students. Our lessons focused on a range of topics, from cutting edge biofuels development to basic anatomy to “contagious cancers” and the HPV vaccine.

Ideally, we would like to develop lessons specifically tailored to your curriculum. This allows us to prepare the best and most effective program for your class. We are also open to preparing laboratory lessons centered upon our main lecture that allow a more engaging and interactive session with your students and our Harvard science graduate students.

If you are a teacher from a public high school in the Boston area, and you are interested in working with SITN to bring graduate student scientists into your classroom, please contact us at sitnboston at gmail dot com!
